Ideas to cheer you up when you are feeling low!

In a paradigm where deadlines, competition and 24*7 hustle have become the norm of the day, it is natural to feel mentally exhausted and tired and in those times, you need to create your own sunshine.

In our day to day lives, we face a lot of ups and downs and given the complexities of life, it is natural to feel low at times.
This phenomenon could be characterised by a lack of interest for activities once found to be interesting, feeling of loneliness, irritation, betrayal, a feeling of lack of control over the situation or just plain despondency. All this could vary from person to person or the same person might feel low in different ways from time to time.

One might feel low because of a certain incident, a major loss or a setback, a person or for no identifiable reason at all. But one thing is for sure, each one of us feels low at times and it is all right.

In order to cheer yourself up, a lot of interesting ventures could be taken up. Something as basic as bringing a gentle smile on your face and being there in the present can help one to escape the negative thoughts and the mindless chatter in one’s head. One needs to break the monotony and do something that is much more fulfilling. It could be anything under the sky; from getting a manicure, baking yourself a treat, working out, a massage, journaling, meditating, calling a friend, taking a hot shower bath, watching your favourite comedy TV series , cuddling your pet, to turning on some peaceful music and hitting the pillow.

One can pick up activity from a wide genre of activities to take a break and these activities need not be very complicated or cumbersome. There is no rule book for these activities and they shouldn’t be seen as tasks to be accomplished .Their basic purpose should be to make you feel happy-happy. Go, take out that old colouring book of yours and as you fill in, let the vibrant colours uplift your mood, sing a song no matter how cacophonous it sounds, play ball with the neighbour’s naughty kid, initiate a small conversation with your granny. Do whatever it takes to bring back a smile on your face.

Life can be challenging and one might feel low a lot of times but just by following a few guidelines and taking up a few activities, one can feel at peace and get back to enjoying this celebration called life. So find that Kit –Kat Break activity of yours; so that next time you feel gloomy you know what exactly helps you to cheer up.

But in the long run if one wishes a consistent pattern of contentment, satisfaction, and gratitude in life, one must first learn to become happy with oneself. Practice positivity and gratitude in your daily life. To keep up these joyful practices, introduce habits that can help you maintain a good and confident mood. Hence in the long run, if one wants to make a positive change in one’s mental health and ensure that frequent bouts of depression stay at bay, a positive lifestyle change needs to be made. Regular exercise, meditation and getting into a habit of positive self-talk can go a long way in making a person happy and cheerful.
