Slowly through the process of evolution, we emerged to be an anatomically modern human. From hunter-gatherers to settled agrarians, from industrialists to globalised citizens; we have come a long way. What started as a struggle to get even the basic necessities of life ended up as a complex web of technological, political, social, cultural, religious and economic processes. As we move ahead in life knowingly or unknowingly we start making it complicated. It results in tension, fatigue, frustration and depression. It is always advisable to keep life simple in order to stay mentally fit. We can actually keep life simple and uncomplicated by making a few fundamental changes. As we move away from the basic necessities to complex commodities both tangible and intangible our lives become more and more complex. We surround ourselves and our mind with commodities and thoughts which over complicate things. In order to illustrate it, remember the time of your school days. Every morning you would get ready and wear your school uniform .Life was simple back then. You had just one uniform which you wore every day. But then when you moved to college, you could wear whatever you wanted and suddenly you had to spend hours deciding what to wear, worrying over how you looked and spent money on getting accessories and clothes. As the number of outfits increased so did the time spent on deciding and worrying about them. So the first key to keeping it simple is Minimalism. It is a way of life, where you use and acquire only those things which are necessary. In addition to this, we also complicate our lives by overthinking. Think about an incident in the past which made you very anxious. You spent hours anticipating different scenarios. But when it actually happened, it was nowhere close to what you had thought it would be. But you spent hours worrying about it. One needs to learn to keep it simple. A lot of things are not really in our hands and the best thing which we can do it to sit back and relax. One needs to go back to the basics. The very essence of our existence i.e. our breath teaches us that life is as simple as taking a deep breath in and a breathe out is, rest everything is add on. Thirdly, focus on what makes you happy. Instead of scattering your energy in a lot of directions focus on things and people that matter to you. Do what you like, spend time with your closed ones .By doing what you like and staying near to your loved ones, you will make your life easy. As we move ahead in the 21st century with the society around us changing at a rapid pace, simplicity is the key. Just take one thing at a time. Do not over think, over analyse or complicate anything. Start by reducing the number of material things and people who you find toxic. Then move on to living in the present because a lot of complicated scenarios are just in our head and lastly do what makes you happy!
