‘Normality is a paved road, it’s comfortable to walk but no flower’s to grow on it.’
– Vincent Van Gogh
The conformist nature of humankind has more often than not caused a lot many people to live life in the conventional. But why would you want to be ‘extra-ordinary’ ? Why would you want to go through troubles when you could just relax, take a step back and enjoy the moment?
Humans are astonishing beings. There are few limits to what we can achieve directly or indirectly, in comparison to other organisms that we have discovered. It is through these inconceivable feats that humans have dominated the food chain. But is it necessary to think differently, to act in ways which society would not support? Well of course you have to. Did you think the Wright Brothers thought of building the airplane by listening to what some random elderly person telling them that it’s impossible for humans to fly because they don’t have feathers?
You see, acting in ways which make us take a step outside the cultural boundaries created by society do make us misfits, rebels but it is only there where the genius lies. To be different is more than just thinking in other ways, it is going against the common notion, it is a risk. We all need this in our lives. We have to have an element of the crazy, because that’s what makes us unique. That is the only way we bring to our lives our distinctiveness.
The world we live in is ruthless. It turns us into conditioned lab-rats whiling away our time in a never-ending circle of drudgery. We have little to escape this loop except for the section of irrational childlike wants we have. We must nurture this child we have within us because being an adult is not very enjoyable most of the times. There’s a lot of things we have to do, a lot more responsibilities and therefore, a lot more stress. To cope with the stress life provides us with we need stressbusters, and it’s the child in us which finds us ways to relieve that stress. Childlike qualities in adults are found to be undesirable. Adults are supposed to be reliable.
The times we live in are very mundane. Whether it is working on a nine to five job every weekday or going to school when you’re just a budding pupil. It does get very repetitive. So to add some exhilaration in life we need to do things which give us the thrill of adventure.
Keeping that in mind we must take into consideration what we spend our time on. We must never consider something which could bring us harm to be something exploratory. Many people find substance abuse and other acts which will probably harm you directly or indirectly. While it is no-one’s business as to what you as an individual do to spice up your life, we must be aware of what we do and take calculated risks.
Having said that, we must all be curious to see what life has in store for us. We should all live life to the fullest and not think about how others may perceive our actions no matter how ‘crazy’ they might seem.
