Follow Your Dreams

Reading Time: 3 minutes

While people come and go, our dreams stay forever and it is these dreams that work as the pushing factor in our life. While we survive 10 years of school studying conventional subjects as per the curriculum and judging and intelligence on the marks we get, we don’t realise that not all fingers are of the same size and similarly not every person is good in maths or science. When we enter class 11th and are finally given the chance to choose what we actually want to do with our life, the society stops us.
More often than not, students are forced to take science or commerce against their wishes because humanities is considered to be inferior and everyone is naturally expected to be good at maths and science.

You are what you dream of not what people ask you to be. Go ahead and work and become the world famous musician you always dreamt of or be the painter whose paintings are the best. A famous theorist Howard Gardner said that intelligence is the ability to solve problems, or to create products, that are valued within one or more cultural settings, so when did intelligence become the ability to do maths, science and social science.

Do what makes you happy, and if what you are doing is not making you happy then you are not doing the right thing.

Here are a few points that’ll help you decide what to pick :-

1) Think before you choose what to pursue, don’t just choose something the society approves or your parents think you should do.
2) Always think about your happiness first and whether what you are doing is actually justifying your potential.
3) Leave doing it if it is not making you happy.
4) Always keep evolving and transforming and setting new goals.
5) As much as it is necessary to have an inspiration, it is equally important to become an inspiration to someone.

You can always be a great scientist or a doctor or a psychologist or a musician but being great in something requires you to be interested in it first. If you are not interested in doing it then dont do it.

To know your potential better, you can:-
· Take aptitude tests
· Talk go career counsellors
· Talk to you inspirations
· And listen to your heart.

Yes, your parents and your teachers are your elders and they definitely know life better but for sure you know yourself better than anyone else. Talk to your parents and tell them what you think you want to pursue or do with your life. Doing what you love would be hard and there would be a lot of obstacles coming on your way but then it isn’t really fun to achieve something if it is not hard to get. Find solutions to your problems and create the product that is extremely good. Be the product that is the inspiration of million others. And even if you are not an inspiration it is okay because you are happy and not all things that make you happy can be counted by money. So yes, give it a thought before choosing and don’t listen to the society, they say it because they were told to do the same. It is as per your dreams and your goals and your talents, not everyone is you.

Do what you love the most. At the end of the day, it is you who will have to live with that decision for a lifetime, not your parents, not your teachers, not the society but YOU!
